Status: approved singleton run and matched published-rate comparison complete. Both model captures, all fixed-depth analyses, immutable uploads, numerical checks and paid-pod teardown are verified. The report provides descriptive evidence about the original question; it does not claim new behavioral validation or establish a generally reliable leakage metric.

Goal

Test whether context-vector cosine similarity predicts measured story-imprinting tracer uptake across matched persona conditions, using Qwen3.8-27B as an initial pilot.

Completed matched Qwen–DeepSeek comparison (22 September 2026)

The published comparison report uses the same eight published descriptions and 240 unchanged questions for each model: 1,920 unique contexts in 240 chunks. DeepSeek-V3.1-Base ran native FP8 on eight H200s with one unpadded context per forward and all 61 × 7,168 residual coordinates. Qwen's prior capture was reverified. No source or scientific threshold changed during the successful run.

The primary comparison pairs cos(evaluation, Helpful) − cos(evaluation, alternative) with published Helpful tracer uptake − alternative tracer uptake. HHH and Fred each have five pairs and remain separate; no self-cosines enter these correlations. The report includes all fixed depths (DeepSeek 15/30/45/60, Qwen 15/31/47/63), ordinary and uncentered whitened cosine, all three question-bank fits, sign agreement, and secondary direct-other uptake results. All 96 statistical records and all 40 displayed table rows were independently checked.

Associations depend on depth and evaluation persona. Across the four DeepSeek depths, full-bank raw Pearson r is −0.688/+0.885/+0.838/+0.969 for HHH and +0.392/+0.909/+0.967/+0.877 for Fred. Strong correlation can accompany an incorrect preference: at the fixed final block 60, HHH raw r = +0.969 has only 1/5 matching signs; every published HHH contrast favors Helpful. Whitening also varies across question-half fits. No layer, metric or model is selected as a winner, and no p-values are invented.

Independent checks read all DeepSeek chunks, verified finite BF16 vectors and unique row identities, reconstructed centroids exactly, and matched all 61 raw matrices within 3.45e−15. A separate full-dimensional FP64 primal Cholesky calculation matched all twelve whiteners within 1.74e−12. Singleton replay was bitwise exact on 18 contexts with zero hook error. Mixed-batch error remains 0.25390228629112244 as diagnostic evidence; historical attempt 10 remains a failure with no production vectors.

All 262 DeepSeek upload names, sizes and hashes passed at immutable HF revision e7840c8fb3f8ad46fc654ad60ba51b55098ff1c1; the Git JSONs match that snapshot. Source 8f9f676965f57401cb2fb1099c29c87b2f0a397b published results at 72b21cce6d57ff7215cc4c1374a1c8144aecb4c6. Pod s6jygzggobcy45 was terminated through the upload-gated route and personal-account absence verified. Its allocation used at most 5.258 GPU-hours; cumulative recorded usage is at most 20.410 of the approved 45 GPU-hours. The single additional paid-allocation authority is consumed.

This completes the approved extraction and published-rate comparison. Short-description, generic-question geometry before story fine-tuning is not the full triggered Bloom behavior after fine-tuning; five aggregate pairs per persona do not establish general behavioral validity. The broader research task remains interpreting with has_clean_result=false to avoid promoting this descriptive comparison as validated leakage measurement. No new behavioral experiment is authorized or launched.

Earlier evidence: requested metrics without centering

The user requested ordinary cosine and whitened cosine, with no mean subtraction. Full SFL means the combined sarcasm, French closing sentence and numbered-list prompt. Each persona is compared with that prompt's context centroid, so full SFL is a self-comparison fixed at cosine 1 under either metric.

The completed uncentered reanalysis uses the same saved Qwen vectors and the same published Kimi leakage outcomes. Ordinary cosine was computed at all 64 blocks; whitening at the four previously fixed blocks 15/31/47/63. Whitening uses the uncentered second moment of all 2,400 individual context vectors, regularized with the earlier #665/#666 conditioning rule; neither metric subtracts a mean.

At block 63, all six unique conditions give raw Pearson r=0.4617/Spearman rho=0.3714, and whitened r=−0.0234/rho=0.4286. The five-condition omit-self sensitivity gives raw r=0.6112/rho=0.9000 and whitened r=0.5986/rho=1.0000. Full-six results remain primary. Same-battery, rank-deficient whitening can compress disjoint persona means toward orthogonality, so this does not establish improved or worsened general-purpose prediction.

Ordinary and whitened cosine versus published leakage

All 300 source chunks were hash-checked, all 2,400 rows occurred once, and reconstructed means matched archived centroids exactly. Five focused tests passed. Independent real-data 5,120-dimensional Cholesky verification matches the final-block whitening within 4.46e-13. Code, matrices, logs, figure and independent review are saved at the linked revision. No new model work occurred. Qwen-versus-Kimi and context-distribution limitations remain; this completes the requested metric reanalysis, not same-model leakage validation.

Earlier centered diagnostic

A reviewed comparison with published leakage rates now pairs the same six ladder persona conditions. Qwen3.8-27B provides globally centered cosine to the full SFL persona; story-finetuned Kimi-K2.6 provides SFL-associated tracer uptake. The leakage means are reconstructed from the official Figure 28 vector graphic, with source hash, coordinates and scalar extraction recorded. No Qwen behavior was measured.

Sarcasm + lists0.89044.5%
French−0.61335.2%
French + lists−0.13343.6%
Full SFL1.00034.5%

All six unique conditions yield Pearson r=0.5244 and Spearman rho=0.3714 at block 63. Excluding SFL, whose self-cosine is fixed at one, gives r=0.6904 and rho=0.9000 for five conditions. This is a sensitivity analysis, not a replacement for the complete pairing. Full SFL is a substantive counterexample to strict monotonic prediction. All-layer results and the four previously fixed display blocks are retained; no best-layer selection or significance claim is made.

The pairing crosses models, training histories and context distributions. The six condition means are not independent seed-level observations; published uncertainty is not propagated. The 240 questions and 64 blocks do not increase the behavioral sample size. Helpful tracer uptake is a separate outcome, not the complement of SFL uptake. These findings do not validate cosine as a leakage metric on Qwen.

Completed capture and remaining work

The previous capture methodology and geometry analysis documents the completed 2,400 contexts, all 64 blocks, exact prompt inputs, independent verification, immutable tensor uploads, and completed compute teardown. That document describes the geometry subtask and does not answer the corrected leakage question.

These earlier analyses preceded the approved matched Qwen–DeepSeek comparison now reported above. They remain historical evidence. No new story-training or behavioral-evaluation experiment is part of the completed singleton run.

Evidence: Paired JSON, paired CSV, independent review.
