Daily — 2026-07-31 (31 tasks completed; 17 fixes filed for review; 0 promoted)

updated: 2026-09-03

What happened

  • Heavy fleet day: 31 tasks completed (dominated by the workflow-fix wave #1851–#1872 plus #1887, #1889, #1903, #1911, #1912, #1937, #1941, #1953–#1956), 6 tasks reached awaiting_promotion (#1768, #1895, #1900, #1901, #1945, #1946), 32 tasks created, ~1,936 task-state commits. 0 clean-results promoted.
  • #1768 landed round 4 (prefix-richness dose ladder, job 16134) and round 5 (behavior-relevant never-trained prefix anchor panel, job 16410) and merged its branch — after a ~10 h merge deferral behind cross-issue gate contention (filed tonight as #1962) and a 1,784-commit main drift recovered via rebase-onto + fresh PR.
  • #1946 finished the language-stratified mirror recomputation (verdict Reproduced: ρ_M = 0.855, perm p < 1e-4; the SAE M_en flip localized to bare-arm English magnitude) and moved into the exact-sae-floors cheap-band follow-up round (plan v5 approved; child #1959 + workflow-fix #1960 filed).
  • #1902 ground through P4 fits on the fellows SLURM lane (52/134 at the last heartbeat) after three lane-seam crash fixes (shared-node GPU sizing, VAST EBADF, git-less rsync scratch — each with a landed pin test + gotcha task).
  • #1874 went plan → approved → run → code-review PASS → reviewing in one day.
  • Codex quota outage all day (sentinel live until 2026-08-06): every doubled review site fleet-wide ran single-Claude per the #1204 no-show fallback — today's merged fixes and plans had single-family review only.
  • An org-wide fable-5 output-TPM 429 storm (~04:35–04:53Z on 08-01) hit ≥6 autonomous sessions; the stop-hook + watcher lanes recovered them (#1895/#1945/#1946 verified recovered tonight; #1934 alive mid-merge with fresh heartbeats).

Applied workflow improvements

  1. Target: .claude/agents/analyzer.md, .claude/rules/analyzer-section-reference.md — what: figure-commit step 2 now names the guard_root_code_commit.sh bounce recovery (run step 3's inline lint gate FIRST, then retry the commit) — commit: 792e24b869 Why: parked #1864 candidate (implementer §(d) + code-reviewer Minor note, 2026-07-31T17:24Z): the restructured step order commits before the certifying gate, so a code-payload commit is hook-bounced at step 2 with no inline recovery note. Applied edit:
+ On a `guard_root_code_commit.sh` bounce at this commit (code payload not yet
+ certified), run step 3's gate FIRST, then retry this commit — the hook
+ validates the cert at COMMIT time.

  2. Target: .claude/rules/gotchas.md — what: 4 new entries — (a) gate/verifier piped-rc masking (#1900: verify_carryover_inputs.py … | tail read PASS over 7 live FAILs); (b) GCP FLEX_START create outliving a bg-Bash wrapper under queue pressure (#1739: verify via handle + inventory after any killed launch wrapper); (c) ownership-probe self-match inside compounds carrying the unbracketed relaunch text (#1900); (d) recursive greps traversing the .claude/worktrees bind-mount (#1773) — commit: 7bd42ad23f
  3. Target: .claude/rules/llm-judging.md, .claude/skills/issue/SKILL.md — what: rule 23 now requires drop-class diagnosis to inspect stop_reason/the raw stored response, never %.200s-truncated failure-log text (#1773 mis-diagnosis); SKILL brief guidance adds "a brief NEVER suppresses the implementation marker" (#1900 manufactured marker-shape blocker) — commit: 4cbb5c47fc
  4. filed for review #1962: cross-issue Step 9c/10d lint-gate concurrency arbitration — 3 sessions' gate pytest legs killed each other on the shared VM (#1768 merge deferred ~10 h; #1865, #1868).
  5. filed for review #1963: guard family syncs scripts/guard_*.sh with its pin tests (Step 5a + Step 10d FAMILY_OF/SPECS) — from the #1860 + #1862 parked candidates (routed-records posted on both).
  6. filed for review #1964: dispatch preflight staging + flag probes — the launch-composition defect family (~15 wasted launch cycles across #1739/#1689/#1345/#1902/#1946/#1900).
  7. filed for review #1965: route long VM judge drivers off-VM on the FIRST protected earlyoom kill (#1900's judge driver killed in a fleet-wide low-memory storm).
  8. filed for review #1966: never push to a branch live boxes sync mid-run (#1739 self-inflicted push collision killed 3 lanes' upload legs).
  9. filed for review #1967: per-tier pilot walls + verify_plan c12 screen vocabulary — compute-sizing pilot-basis misses (~12× P4 wall on #1902; #1739 tier transfer; #1901 unmeasured serial screen).
  10. filed for review #1968: hold subagent re-spawn past an ACTIVE 429 storm (#1895's analyzer respawn died within a minute mid-storm).
  11. filed for review #1969: fellows-lane stall reads need a grace window / queue-state awareness (#1900 false stalled classifications all session).
  12. filed for review #1970: inline-round pod release needs a sanctioned upload-verification satisfier + all-prefix verify duty (#1773's terminate refusal → --skip-upload-verify after hand-verify).
  13. filed for review #1971: watcher escalate-only report lane for TTY-attached unmapped idle sessions (26 active sessions accumulated invisibly until Thomas asked).
  14. filed for review #1972: widen the pre-gate spec-freshness sync set (stale sibling-issue scripts + always-appended memory/spec files cost ≥5 gate runs across 4+ sessions).
  15. filed for review #1973: SLURM fetch_results atomic rsync pull — finalize teardown cut a results-rsync mid-transfer while reporting ok: true (4.7 GB partial tree under eval_results/, #1768 r3).
  16. filed for review #1974: pooling-convention row in the both-arms mapping disclosure (planner §4 / Statistics lens) — #1768 shipped span-mean pooling mismatching the #779 last-token comparison line; user caught it, ~15–18 GPU-h re-pool.
  17. filed for review #1975 (experiment code): map fit-space parity assert — #1739's natural-PV pipeline applied a whitened-fit map to raw activations; sycophancy headline 0.577→0.486 corrected ~21 h later.
  18. filed for review #1976: lower the pre-split trigger for fits+figures+smoke implementer units (#1902's unit C died at the context ceiling despite the #1810 pre-split).
  19. filed for review #1977: guard_root_code_commit.sh exempts path-limited git add --all -- <paths> (2 needless recomposes).
  20. filed for review #1978: extract the Step 10d Guard 1–5 shell blocks into a checked-in scripts/step10d_guards.sh (hand-retyped per session; typo + stale template name observed).

Other problems & notes

  • Retraction re-check: 5 marker-mined parked candidates scanned (tasks #1853/#1860/#1862/#1864/#1867), 0 retractions found. Two parks resolved as landed-fix dedups instead of filings: the #1853 urgent park's failing test went green via #1912 (commit 51ffeac51d), the #1867 urgent park's lint red via #1953 (commit d9fa666911) — routed-records posted on both.
  • Step C sweep hygiene: 6 parked candidates enumerated, all dispositioned — 1 filed (#1963, covering BOTH the #1860 and #1862 parks — same bug, one filing), 1 route-1 self-applied (#1864 park → 792e24b869), 2 landed-fix dedups (above), 1 deferred (the #1771 architectural-greenlight mechanization stays parked — #1771 itself is still plan_pending rewriting that exact gate). 1 benign skipped row (json-decode on #1333, relevant_kind: false, known shape); unmatched_record_fps advisory ~300 refs (standing #1703 condition, grows with each night's routed-records).
  • Consolidation skip (already landed): M2 (analyzer direct-to-main script commits bypassing payload lint) — both proposed halves already landed: analyzer.md's numbered inline-payload-lint-gate duty (c44449837f) + the existing GLOB_SCAN_TESTS scripts→thread-caps test mapping. The three thread-caps/dotenv reds it caused today were each fixed by bystander sessions.
  • M19 (not applied — target outside /daily's write set): control/aux legs of a reused battery need their OWN staging + consumer-open probe (#1887's P0 crashed on the unstaged #825 CONTROL-leg store; two review rounds passed it). Suggested home: code-reviewer agent memory — agent-memory is not a /daily write target; the reviewer's own memory loop should pick it up from #1887's lesson markers.
  • M22 probed: the healthy-looking #1768 predecessor session force-stopped at 16:03Z was the watcher stalled-detector's LIVE-SESSION ESCALATION (self_gap=96.7m marker_gap=140.2m, 2 consecutive episodes, #506 dead-bg-chain class). The predicate acted as designed on stale self-report/markers — the session was tick-alive but not heartbeating. Adherence note (long-runner heartbeat rule), no filing.
  • #1948 (inline lint-gate payload path issue-keyed → cross-certification between concurrent same-issue rounds) was filed + evidence-updated by the #1768 sessions; it sits at proposed (spawn no-op'd) — watcher proposed_infra_sweep backstop covers dispatch.
  • Still needs Thomas — re-surfaced: (a) #1947 parked plan_pending at 115 GPU-h (> the 100 cap) — the gate push failed ("Remote Control inactive"), so the park may be unseen; (b) #1922 (root-sync KEPT-stash triage, needs-human) — backlog GREW: 6 stash entries + 2 new rescue dirs dated 2026-08-01 under ~/.task-workflow/root-sync-rescue/; 5 sessions re-surfaced it today.
  • Guards + harness working as designed (adherence tally): ~16 banned compositions blocked across ≥9 sessions (piped git verbs, repo-root rebase/pull, bg sleep-loop watchers, uncertified root commits — incl. one piped-commit bounce in THIS run, recomposed bare); ~11 Write/Edit-before-Read slips; 6 merge-conflict/non-ff landings all resolved per recipe; 4 spurious refusal kills all recovered on the first ladder rung; index.lock + deferred-commit events handled per recipe. Fixed-in-day experiment-code bugs (L16 cluster: #1739 wcrung import shadow, #1900 serial P1 crashes, #1902 capture-cost gate, #1345 span-gate, #1768 exit-cleanup race, #1901 WildChat yield miss) all self-repaired under the crash-fix protocol with pin tests/filings.
  • Session-filed tasks confirmed in the stream today (no /daily action): #1955 (argsort tie-order gotcha), #1934 (judge JSON fence-strip re-judge — dispatched), #1937–#1939 (fellows seam gotchas), #1959/#1960 (from #1946's round).
  • title-sync drift unchanged (8 rows: #432 #458 #654 #658 #664 #665 #763 #1226 — see logs/daily/2026-07-25.md). Read-only sweep exited 0.
  • Staged-set audits: clean on every /daily commit tonight (no foreign staged files).
  • retraction re-check: 5 marker-mined problems scanned, 0 skipped-by-retraction (2 skipped as landed-fix dedups).

Living-docs drift

  • living_docs.py check exited 1 with 199 findings (hash 078285c14444): ~190 completed-with-clean-result tasks missing from any question's evidence (ids #376–#549 band and onward) + stale spec-role-header State trailers vs results promoted 06-09..06-16.
  • drift proposal already open (same hash logged 2026-07-07/07-22/07-23/07-24/07-27/07-28; count identical since 07-06); not re-proposing. No event-stream row appended (dedup rule 1a).
  • Step B: the sole un-reconciled living-docs rejection (#713) is unchanged with no new context — not re-surfaced (no-spam skip); no on_hold parked-redundant follow-ups exist.
