Daily — 2026-07-12 (11-task infra drain done; 12 new filings; one 12.5h refusal stall)

updated: 2026-09-03

What happened

  • The 07-11 nightly's full 11-task filing batch drained end-to-end. #1275–#1285 all ran through autonomous /issue --auto sessions and merged to main (~297 commits on 07-12 UTC, PRs #1031–#1040). Landed: file-only Codex verdict posting (#1275), verify_plan c25 count-scoping (#1276) + c4 _standalone_na_declared migration (#1277), conftest watcher-stub consolidation (#1278), the LESSONS.md edit-time guard hook (#1279), Step 10d Guard-1 three-dot scoping (#1280), the mid-note park sweep fix (#1281), verbatim lens-heading critic briefs (#1282), the filer-side title-prefix WARN (#1283), the last 7 issue1092 dotenv offenders (#1284 — test_shared_vm_thread_caps is green on main again), and the stale duplicate tasks/reviewing/1196 folder removal (#1285).
  • One bad stall: #1277's first session was refusal-killed on its boot turn at 06:55Z — before the /issue-tick cron was armed — and no watcher fast path covered that shape, so the task sat ~12.5h until the 12h stale-registration sweep freed it (re-dispatched 19:23Z, completed 20:34Z). Fix filed tonight (#1287).
  • Codex quota outage continues (sentinel live until 2026-08-06T13:26Z): every review round fleet-wide ran single-Claude per the #1204 pre-spawn skip. Correct behavior, but cross-family review diversity stays off until the reset.
  • No experiments, no pods, no promotions — second consecutive pure-infra day.
  • Tonight's sweep routed all 9 outstanding parked workflow-fix candidates (sweep now enumerates 0) and filed 12 review tasks (#1286–#1297) + 1 needs-human task (#1298).

Applied workflow improvements

No route-1 (trivial mechanical) fixes were self-applied tonight — every derivable fix was a behavior/logic change, so all routed to independent review. 12 route-2 filings via daily_drive_filings.py (#1286 spawned a session at filing; #1287–#1297 are dispatch-deferred on the driver's 60s stagger → watcher proposed_infra_sweep backstop — see logs/daily/filings-2026-07-12/filed.jsonl):

  1. filed for review #1286 (non-workflow, daily-auto-filed only): main's pytest collection is BROKEN — tests/test_issue810_uh_pack_validation.py imports UH_SUMMARY_NAMES, absent from scripts/issue810_common.py (the #595 stranding class; red since ~07-05, re-verified with a collect run tonight). From #1037's parked follow-up.
  2. filed for review #1287: watcher respawn for boot-turn refusal deaths — the #1277 shape: killed before the tick cron is armed ⇒ zero failed wakes ⇒ no wedge trigger; stalled lane is alert-only; only the 12h sweep recovers (transcript-mined, sessions f7dd0696/d2c117e4).
  3. filed for review #1288: Step 10d merge contention in same-batch infra fleets — 0/4 first-attempt rebase merges today, one real tasks/REGISTRY.json + rename/rename conflict recovery (~16 min), ~30 min aggregate + ~7 redundant lint-gate re-runs; serialize via merge flock / dispatch stagger / squash-first (planner picks).
  4. filed for review #1289: Step 9c selector + reviewer diff base should be fetched origin/main, not local main — with the shared root behind origin, #1280 got a 202KB foreign diff, #1281 a 41-file inflated gate, #1282 hand-ran --base origin/main (selector default confirmed at select_step9c_tests.py:454).
  5. filed for review #1290: canonical verify_plan.py --json parse snippet — 3/3 sessions improvised d.get('verdict') (key doesn't exist; real key is overall) and inferred PASS from n_fail.
  6. filed for review #1291: kind-aware gating for verify_plan c8/c15 WARNs — 4 hand-written waivers of the same two WARN shapes on kind: infra plans in one night (alarm-fatigue class).
  7. filed for review #1292: v2 lens-critic briefs cite their rubric heading verbatim — routes #1282's recursion-guard-parked prose follow-up (left in an epm:plan marker, a location the Step C sweep cannot enumerate).
  8. filed for review #1293: source-pin the piped-git-push no-flags bundling test — tests/test_workflow_lint.py:2412 is the exit-0-on-clean-tree vacuous class #1233 fixed for pipe-python (formal candidate from #1233, fp 3512ee8f9016).
  9. filed for review #1294: producer-side regeneration bullet in upload-policy.md — regenerating a published artifact in place requires a version bump or a dependent-captures note (the #779/#922 pair-incoherence producer half; formal candidate from #941, fp da06c89cbf61).
  10. filed for review #1295: consolidate the THIRD inline pass-neutralization loop in tests/test_auth_outage_guard.py onto the shared conftest helper — it is missing boot_death_pass (live hermeticity gap) and uses hasattr silent-skip (parked on #1278).
  11. filed for review #1296: scripts_dir bootstrap before the bare runpod_api import at backend_poll.py:1554 — sibling sites have it, this one doesn't (parked on #710 since 06-28; the originally cited failing test no longer exists — noted honestly in the body, planner may deflect).
  12. filed for review #1297 (non-workflow, daily-auto-filed only): tests/test_issue658_judge_e0_batch_migration.py installs a module-scope sys.modules stub of issue658_common with no teardown — leaks across test files in the same pytest session (from #1037's parked follow-up).

Other problems & notes

  • #1277 refusal stall, 12.5h (worst problem of the day). Boot-turn usage-policy refusal at 06:55:41Z on a watcher-dispatched session; no fast recovery path fired (see filing #1287). The re-run session also had its round-1 Alternatives critic refusal-killed (19:45Z) — recovered in 2.5 min via the refusal-ladder rung (b) vocabulary-thinned retry. #1277's guard/regex subject matter is unusually trigger-dense; 2 refusals on one task in one day.
  • Yesterday's Step C routed-records were defective, causing tonight's sweep to re-enumerate two already-routed candidates: the #1271 record carried the filing-side fp 3f8b0738867d instead of the candidate's block fp 4c398c9880e8 (a different-fp record never suppresses, by design), and the #1258 c7 dedup record the 07-11 daily claimed to post was never posted. Corrective records posted tonight; both now suppress. Lesson recorded here: routed-records for FORMAL candidate blocks must carry the block's own fingerprint verbatim.
  • Parked-candidate sweep (Step C): all 9 outstanding candidates routed tonight; sweep re-run returns 0. 6 filed (#1292–#1297 per above, incl. the two #1037 items → #1286/#1297), 2 deduped (#1271's Guard-1 → already filed as #1280; #1258's c7 → shipped in #1262), 2 resolved-on-main with verification (#911's janitor-test hermeticity — the proposed monkeypatch is present; #988's torch-before-dotenv — test green after #1284).
  • Retraction re-check: 9 marker-mined problems scanned, 0 skipped for retraction; 2 deduped + 2 resolved-on-main (counted above, not filed). #710's newer completion markers were its own unrelated fix, not a retraction of the parked candidate.
  • Shared repo-root main sat behind origin/main (~08:47–09:20Z) with an unresolved conflict on tasks/reviewing/1279/events.jsonl — hit 3 concurrent sessions (foreign-inflated diffs/selections; see filing #1289). #1282's session declined to resolve it and documented the deviation; a different session healed it; verified converged by evening. The #644/#1253 duplicate-task-folder class also recurred transiently for #1280 — the post-merge guard auto-remediated it.
  • #1284's auto-filed body under-enumerated the violator set (2 named, 7 real) — the #1221/#1229/#1249 stale-claim-filing class again, milder (scope expanded, not refuted); the planner caught it by executing the test's own predicate at plan time. The verified-at-filing mandate (#1272) remains the discipline; tonight's filings each carry a fresh grep/run at compose time.
  • guard_repo_root_branch.sh tripped on --note prose quoting git merge $MAIN_SHA (#1280's clarify marker, ~20s to recover via the --file dodge). NOT filed — same disposition as 07-11: documented fail-closed design; the hook's error message teaches the bypass.
  • #928 still frozen at followups_running (last marker 07-08T14:21Z, now 4 days; 2nd consecutive daily flag). Route 3 — filed #1298 (daily-held, needs-human): re-driving may re-provision compute, so the re-drive vs close-the-round vs triage-the-watcher-suppression call is Thomas's/the PM's.
  • One-offs, self-recovered, no action: #1281's orchestrator called TaskOutput before loading its deferred schema (InputValidationError, fixed in one turn) and a 10-min blocking TaskOutput timeout leaked a truncated raw subagent JSONL chunk into context; #1279's fact-checker caught a plan recipe that would have shipped the LESSONS guard silently inert (spec_from_file_location crash + fail-open = never blocks) — pipeline working as designed; #1275's consistency-checker caught a same-file contradiction, fixed in plan v3; #1285's first push was rejected non-fast-forward and recovered on the plan's pre-registered retry.
  • Heads-up: .claude/agents/upload-verifier.md is 970 bytes under its 47,800-byte size cap — the next editor trips the lint FAIL.
  • Title-sync drift sweep (Step D): title-sync drift unchanged (8 rows — see logs/daily/2026-07-11.md).
  • Daily stub push: first git push rejected (non-fast-forward); sync_repo_root.py recovered and confirmed landed. No residue.

Living-docs drift

  • living_docs.py check FAILs with 199 findings — materially identical to the open re-synthesis proposal (dead legacy anchors, relates_to ⇄ evidence mismatches incl. #722/#763/#494–#501, ~54 unlinked completed clean-results, 7 stale spec-role-header State-trailer rows). docs/open_questions.md unchanged since 2026-07-07.
  • drift proposal already open (logged 2026-07-07, event-stream hash 078285c14444); not re-proposing. The standing proposal remains: re-synthesize open_questions.md (living-docs updater/backfill) — needs your ok; not auto-applied.
  • Parked-proposal re-consideration (Step B): the one un-reconciled living-docs rejection (#713) has had no context change (no promotions today, open_questions.md untouched), and no followup-parked-redundant markers exist on any on_hold task — nothing became a re-proposal candidate.
